Three former Trump campaign associates have either been indicted or pleaded guilty to the first charges stemming from the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election. A 12-count indictment named former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his deputy, Rick Gates.
The charges include conspiracy against the United States, money laundering and making misleading statements under the Foreign Agents Registration Act.
In addition, former Trump campaign policy adviser George Papadopoulos pleaded guilty earlier this month to lying to FBI agents about his communication with a Russian professor who claimed to have ties to Russian officials, including Vladimir Putin’s niece. The professor claimed his contacts had ‘dirt’ on Hillary Clinton.
